The shorter days and colder weather make it even more tempting to crawl back under the duvet, hunker down with a hot toddy, or lie horizontal for hours on end (we’ve all been there). But exercising throughout winter has many benefits. It supports your immune system, boosts your mood, and improves circulation – all of which can take a hit at this time of year. So, if you need some extra help to see you through the colder months, we’ve got you covered. Here are five ways to keep you moving and feeling your best this winter.
Reduce the friction
Excuses can quickly pile up in winter: “It’s too cold”, “I’m too tired”, or “I just want to stay in bed”. So don’t rely on motivation alone; make things simple for yourself so you actually do it.
Want to work out in the morning? Forgo the fitness gear. Stay cosy and exercise in your pyjamas instead.
Want to build strength? Keep your dumbbells visible as a reminder to pick them up throughout the day.
Want to do more yoga? Roll out your mat and leave it ready whenever you have 5 minutes spare.
By keeping things easy and within reach, you remove the barriers to exercise that make getting started feel harder than it really is.
